Architectural Demolition

Danny Lyon's photographs of the demolition of many Civil War and cast iron buildings in 1967 in lower Manhattan is on exhibition at the New York Museum of the City of New York.

"When the buildings were demolished in 1967, no one in New York cared," he said. "I don't recall ever seeing a single other photographer in front of a building during the six months it took to demolish them, though many hundreds of professional photographers then lived in Manhattan."

The New York Times has a recent article about Danny Lyon, his exhibition at the New York Museum of the City of New York and his reissued book by Powerhouse.

Roger Fenton Photographs

Mr. Roger Fenton considered "Mr. British Photography" was the grandson of a self-made textile magnate from Manchester and the son of a Liberal member of Parliament. He was wealthy, well educated, and well connected.

"Firsts"
In 1852 he brought back the first photographs of Moscow to be seen in England. He was the first photographer granted easy access to the British royal family. He played an important role in the founding of the Photographic Society, the first professional body of its kind in Britain. He was also the first official photographer of the British Museum, or any museum.
