Free Virtual Photography Museum
Eastman House and the International Center of Photography are working on a project to create one of the largest databases of masterwork photography anywhere on the web. The web site is called Photomuse.org. At this time, it is only a test site which has been overwhelmed with visitors.
According to the developers of Photomuse.org, anyone will be able to easily explore the photo collections by searching for photographs based on technical, historical, or cultural keyword information.
The project is expected to cost more than $800,000. Most of the images on the site will be small (300 pixels on the longest side), although higher resolution images in the public domain will be available.
